Elmo Scott Watson historical feature articles in the 1927 Dayton Review (Iowa) newspaper issues

Recently discovered (by me)!
These Dayton Review (Iowa) newspaper issues for 1927 contain weekly Elmo Scott Watson historical feature articles. How did I miss these in my May 2011  post?  Now, I had posted two Dayton ESW articles then - although the DR labeled link to the Nov 11 Henry Knox article actually takes one to the Pentwater News? (Fixing that post is problematical as it is so long and I have 'lost' it while opening the blog post to edit it and then had to reconstruct it - but I digress).

So, it seems I was aware of the Dayton Review in my previous searching, or was I?
Moreover, when I re-found these articles from 1927 workings and compared them to what I posted, I found I missed some very unique offerings.  There are no DR issues available before 1927 and not again until 1930.    As concerns available articles from DR in 1930 and 1933, not as many articles were missed previously, (no issues available for 1931 and 1932.)

Most baffling is the coincidence that my major oversights came from the year 1927 and happened in the month of July....I think I should thank my late Father (13 July, 1927) and late Mother (29 July, 1929) for something connected with this "discovery," important to ME  - "the Lord works in mysterious ways," indeed!

ESW was certainly a productive and busy writer in 1927!
Add to the below 49 articles found in the available  weekly Dayton Review issues (49/52) and some 17 separate articles (see May 11 post) found in other syndicated newspapers (publishing was the local editor's choice) - and one can begin to grasp the range and diversity of his historical interests and the depth and breadth of his work as judged by merely a sample reading of any of the below articles. And he kept up this same pace and production throughout the 1930s and into the mid 1940s - in addition to his college faculty duties and separate book writing endeavors!
His contributions to American historical memory in the citizenry at large (largely rural and small town and city) deserves to be recognized and remembered - his like will never be seen again - and we are a poorer reading public and nation for it.
Thanks to the internet he can be "re-discovered" and more importantly, re-read, by those who not only enjoy a good historical narrative on a  topic of interest but a wide-ranging, multidimensional selection of topics that pay tribute to our cultural, social, economic, political and yes, military, heritage and growth as a nation.

Read and judge for yourself! :
